After a ton of requests from the Herd (you lovely lot), we whipped up a natural leave-in conditioner to pair perfectly with our Shampoos and Conditioners. Think of it as a drink for dry or damaged ends, especially great after washing, between washes or when you need a slicked back bun.

Most conventional leave-in conditioners use oil-soluble Silicone (look out for ingredients ending in -cone) to create slip and shine. While they feel good at first, they tend to coat the hair shaft and build up over time, leaving hair feeling heavy, limp and needing stronger shampoos to strip it back. Not exactly ideal!

That's where ours is different. Instead of Silicones, we use natural oils like Jojoba and Olive Oil that actually absorb into the hair to hydrate from within, no build-up and no synthetic coating. We also add Milk Protein to strengthen and protect your strands by supporting the hair’s natural protective layer (especially important if you heat-style or colour your hair).

Using natural ingredients is not only better for your hair and scalp, it’s also better for the environment. Ever think about what happens to your wash products after they go down the drain? Oil-soluble Silicones and other harsh, synthetic ingredients don’t break down into their natural component easily in the water system.

One of the most common things we hear about this conditioner? “It smells amazing!” That’s thanks to our phthalate-free fragrant oil, a gentle alternative to artificial perfumes that still makes your hair smell freshly washed and delicious (without the irritation).

And curly-haired customers? You’re some of our biggest fans. This one’s a winner for taming frizz, defining curls and helping them stay hydrated and bouncy!

How to use: After washing (or any time you need a boost), apply a small amount to damp or dry hair, focusing on mid-lengths to ends. Leave it in, style as usual and you’re good to go. No rinse needed.

Because we make our products for our families, we have a strict ingredient philosophy that excludes ingredients like Parabens, Phenoxyethanol and penetration enhancers.

Can I use this leave-in conditioner every day?

You sure can! It's lightweight and made with natural ingredients, so it won’t weigh your hair down or cause build-up like Silicone-based products can. Use it daily or whenever your hair feels dry, frizzy or in need of a little extra love.

Is it suitable for curly or wavy hair?

Absolutely! Our curly-haired customers are some of Protein Shot’s biggest fans! It helps define curls, tame frizz and add moisture without making your hair crunchy or sticky. Perfect for keeping curls bouncy and hydrated.

Does it make your hair greasy?

Nope. We’ve formulated Protein Shot to be nourishing, not oily. Just apply a small amount to damp or dry hair, focusing on your mid-lengths and ends (not the roots) and you’ll be left with soft, smooth strands. Less is more with this one!

Can I use Protein Shot on my scalp too?

Protein Shot is designed for your ends, but thanks to the inclusion of Piroctone Olamine (an ingredient that helps support a healthy scalp microbiome), it’s gentle enough for the scalp if it reaches there. That said, we recommend using our Scalp Cream if you’re looking to specifically treat scalp concerns.

What’s the difference between this and your Conditioner?

Great question! Our Cream Conditioner is a rinse-out conditioner for use after shampooing. The Protein Shot is a leave-in treatment designed to be used after washing or between washes for added moisture, shine and protection. We also love to use Protein Shot when styling a slicked back bun to keep everything in place!

Is this product Silicone-free?

Yep, no Silicones here! Instead, we use Glycerine and natural oils like Jojoba and Olive Oil, that actually absorb into the hair to hydrate and nourish, rather than just coat it.

Is it safe for coloured or treated hair?

Sure is! In fact, it’s a great choice for coloured, chemically-treated or heat-styled hair, as the Milk Protein helps to strengthen and protect hair fibres from damage and breakage.

I have dry / oily hair. Do you have a conditioner for that?

A conditioner intended for oily hair has a lower concentration of conditioning ingredients than a dry hair conditioner because less hydration is required. But you can achieve much the same result by just varying the amount of conditioner you use.

Is this product made of milk?

Nope, no fresh milk here! While the name’s inspired by our first product (which was a cream made for cow udders – really!), we don’t pour milk into bottles. What we do use is Milk Protein from a credible Aussie supplier. It’s been shown to help protect and condition hair, giving it strength and bounce without weighing it down. So your hair gets the benefits of milk, without going off on the shelf.

What does "Dermatologically Tested" mean?

You may have seen the term “Dermatologically Tested” on lots of products before, but did you know there’s not an actual definition or regulation for this term? Because that didn’t sit right with us, and because our aim is to make products for people with really sensitive skin, we decided to send a bunch of them off to be tested in an independent lab on 54 people who reported having sensitive skin. The results were given on a scale of 0 to 5 with 0 being no irritation or redness and 5 being a reaction. We’re happy to report that other than one person who had a reaction to the adhesive on the patch and another who found the patches painful to remove, all subjects reported 0 for redness and irritation for all the products we sent for testing. 'Fragrance' is listed as one of the ingredients in this product. What does this mean?

Fair question, especially if you have sensitive skin. We used to use essential oils for fragrance, but even small amounts can cause big reactions for some. So we created a special kind of fragrant oil, where every component below the EU allergy threshold. That means no nasties, no phthalates and no more itchy scalps from a whiff of shampoo. Just a fresh scent that’s safe for sensitive skin.
