Almost all “Acne Creams” use Benzoyl Peroxide bleach. This is why hair will bleach to an orange colour when in contact with most Acne or blemish creams. Bleaches are cheap, but not the first choice in keeping skin looking young and healthy. Acne and blemishes are usually around for a short time, but the skin on our face is forever so we need to take care of it.
Acne has a number of causes, including sebum (skin's oil) becoming rancid, as well as bacteria on the skin causing pores to become infected. This is why an effective cleansing cream that targets both using natural ingredients is so much better than using bleach, in our opinion.
That’s why we set out to find a solution that was effective and good for the skin. We decided to take a different approach and create a cleansing cream that also works as a moisturiser. It may cost a few dollars more for us to make this cream than a bleach-based one, but healthy skin is priceless.
Tip: Apply morning and night after washing, and while the skin is still slightly moist. The cream is not designed for instant results, but works best with consistent use over time.
What other products do you recommend for acne or blemish-prone skin?
We have a few other products that specifically address acne and blemishes. Our Tamanu Oil is a lush oil that helps reduce redness and irritation that is common when dealing with acne or blemishes. It’s best applied after washing, but before moisturising. While it might seem counterintuitive to use oil on blemishes, adding oils to the skin actually helps the skin to stop overproducing its own oil, which is one of the main causes for blemishes.
We also recommend our Oil Cleansing Method. Cleansing with oil also sounds counterintuitive but oil dissolves oil, especially hardened oil trapped deep in the pores. This gentle cleanser doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils, which also helps the skin to stop overproducing its own oil.
And finally, for those looking to exfoliate, we created our Gentle Exfoliating Powder, a gentle, non-abrasive facial exfoliant designed to keep the skin fresh by exfoliating physically and enzymatically.
What ingredients do you avoid when making a moisturiser?
There's lots of things you won't find in this cream (or any of our other products) because they were all formulated for family members and close friends. This includes Paraffin and Mineral Oil which derive from petroleum, but are commonly found in commercial moisturisers like Sorbolene. We don’t think putting the stuff that goes into our cars on our skin is the healthiest thing we can do.
We also don’t use any synthetic preservatives such as Parabens and Phenoxyethanol, although they're pretty common too, including with a few brands that claim to be natural (you know who you are!). We avoid a lot of other things too, way too many to list here. We also don't use any useless, trendy ingredients like stem cells from Swiss apples or super power jellyfish DNA, just natural, effective ingredients for healthy skin.
My cream isn’t white. Does this mean it’s gone bad?
Since we use natural ingredients in our products, you may sometimes notice a change in colour to your cream, particularly this one. A change in colour is normal and should be expected since we don’t use any bleaching agents to keep the cream bright white. Natural ingredients are also often rich in colour and can change the colour of a cream after it's mixed in. Don’t be surprised if this cream changes to a light tan colour over time. It’s not a bad thing.
Is this moisturiser made of milk?
We aren’t called MooGoo because our products are based on milk. Fresh milk in a cream would go off and be smelly. Yuck! We do use Milk Protein in a few of our skin and hair care products, and it’s sourced ethically and sustainably from happy and healthy cows raised on a beautiful farm in New Zealand.
